Day 1 Learning Objectives
✓ Have an understanding and an appreciation for the history of eyebrows
✓ Learn the science of hair growth and be able to describe the stages and cycles of hair growth
✓ Have an general understanding of facial anatomy and how it can affect the shape of eyebrows
✓ Be able to go through a client consultation form thoroughly and accurately ✓ Be able to explain to the client how the microblading and shading procedure is a two-part process. To be honest with what they can expect from the first and second treatment.
✓ Be able to explain the microblading procedure and aftercare to their client
✓ Assess for skin diseases and determine if their client is a suitable candidate
✓ Have the knowledge of what is required by Alberta Health Services to perform the procedure.
✓ Have the knowledge of what is required by Alberta Health Services to ensure that the
procedure room is equip with proper PPE
✓ Learn and be able to properly clean and disinfect supplies ✓ Learn how to design and shape an eyebrow and create eyebrow patterns
Day 1 - IN CLASS
9 am – Meet and Greet – Introduction.
9:15am - 9:30am - Review online component and their quizzes
9:30 -9:45 - Science of Hair Growth and the Stages - Video and Discussion Some women may not have a lot of brow hair based on their age, hormones, genetics, or some underlying problem or from medication. This is something they need to discuss with their clients.
9:45-10:10 am - Face Anatomy (Skin, Muscles, Bones) – Discuss why and how the muscles, bones and skin affect the face and /or the procedure of microblading and shading.
10:10 am - 10:40 am - Client Consultation Form - We will be discussing the necessity of having one, what it provides the technician and when to know who to do and who not to do.
10:40 am - Coffee & Bathroom Break
10:55 am - 11:10am - Skin Diseases and Blood Diseases – We will be reviewing what was taught in the Blood-borne Pathogens Course and discuss when to turn away a client.
11:10 - 11:45 - Aftercare – We will review how to safely take care of their brows after they have been done. We discuss happens when aftercare is not performed correctly.
11:45 - 12:00 - Face Shapes – discuss how to create a shape for each type of shape.
Lunch 12 – 12:40
12:45 pm – PPT Presentation on Brow Design
12:45 - 1:15 Brow Designs – Discuss shapes (male vs. female) - The quad Ratio – This is the “rule of thumb” formula for mapping out brows.
1:15 – Demonstration on mapping out eyebrows on a live model. Students will then pair up and map out each other
1:45- 2:40- Students practice on each other Brow Mapping
2:40 – quick coffee break (5 minutes)
2:45 – 3:15pm – Brow Patterns – How to do your Strokes
- Why brow patterns are important - explain that everyone’s brows grow differently and what happens if you go “against the grain” - How to draw out patterns
- What if.... (Talk about the what if scenarios... ie: if the client has previous tattoo, no brows, wants a different colour etc.)
- Troubleshooting (what happens if you do a design or stroke you’re not happy with, or the client is not happy about something) - Demonstration will be done on the Smart Board
3:15 – 3:50 Students practice brow patterns on their work booklet
3:50 - 4:20 - WHSS PPT Presentation
- What is PPE is and why it is important? Discussion.`
- Tools Used – Go through how to take apart and put together your pen, rulers, wax and surgical markers, blades, numbing cream.
- What your procedure room needs to have in place before performing microblading and shading. (Sink in procedure room, stainless steel sink accessible for cleaning, cleaning supplies, garbage bag, adequate lighting, stretch wrap to put on your products. Everything sealed in containers and labelled, file folder, first aid kit, manual of safe operations controls and procedure.)
- Demonstration on how to handle the tools and equipment during the procedure. How to take a blade out and insert it into the pen, how to watch for cross contamination
- What’s the difference between sanitization and disinfection? Demonstration using cleaning solution and directions as well as the disinfecting solution and directions
- How to properly clean and store tools – Discussion on what needs to be labelled and how to store them in a safe place, free from contamination.
- How to document incidents – Binder of incident reports
- How to dispose of used items – Sharps container within arms reach.
- How to clean after the procedure. You will learn about what needs to be wiped down and what needs to be disinfected and discarded of and/or washed/dried properly.
- The importance of checking items to make sure they have din numbers, lot numbers and expiration dates.
4:20 – Recap with students
4: 30 – Hand out quiz.
- Students will have 20 minutes to complete the online quiz (closed-book).
Before class is over, review online quiz. Students must pass it or they will have to do a re-do the following day.
Homework: Students must hand in 4 brows of each pattern for the following day. They must circle their best one they feel for each brow pattern. This must be done on the grid page. They are we come to practice first on the template pages before drawing them out by hand.
✓ Have an understanding of the types of blades used for microblading and be able to determine what size is appropriate for different types of brows
✓ Learn and be able to determine each client’s skin type according to the Fitzpatrick Scale
✓ Learn the color theory and the art of picking appropriate pigment colours based on their
client’s skin type
✓ Learn the art of colour correction and how to neutralize undesirable colours
✓ Understand the pros and cons of patch testing
✓ Understand how anesthetic works and the different types of anesthetic
✓ Learn different client types and how to deal with difficult clients
✓ Practice on practice skins using the microblading technique to get a feel for pressure and art of creating eyebrow hairs and/or strokes.
✓ Formative – Check for understanding of blades by asking each student questions
✓ Formative – Think Pair Share. Students will pair up to determine blade size(s) that would be appropriate for their partner and the colour based on their skin type
✓ Formative – Asking the questions throughout PPT presentations (on each topic)
✓ Summative – Written, multiple choice quiz at the end of the day on key topics learned
Day 2 Outline
9 am – Review Q & A (spend time on questions that students have)
9:15 – Practice more brow patterns
(Teacher gets students to hand in homework, marks it an hands it back to them). Go over any strategies for patterns. Discuss common problems you are seeing. How to correct it.
10 am – 10:30 Colour Theory PPT (watch your time and don’t rush)
- Colour Wheel – go through how it works an how it applies to permanent cosmetics
- Colour Terminology
- Colour Schemes
- How to Create Neutrals (browns by mixing complementary colours)
- Fitzpatrick Scale
10:30 am – Pigments
- We go over all the pigments in kit. Explain their base tones and what type of skin type they would suit.
10:40 am – 11:15 am Demonstration with Playdough
- Get students to mix colour
10:30 am Exercise (Must team up with a different partner)
- Team up to determine right pigment for their partner. Will present their idea to the class (they have 5 minutes)
10:45 am – Blades and Strokes Presentation
- Blades, Needles and Strokes – Draw the types of strokes each one creates on a smartboard
- Students will have an opportunity to practice with their blades and skins this afternoon.
11:30 – What to Expect for the Live Demonstration.
- Go over step by step instructions

-Discussion about how to do the stretching technique that they will be seeing in the afternoon.
- Anesthetic types. What they can and cannot use on their clients
12:00 – 1:00 Lunch
- Instructor’s Model Shows up at 1 pm - Instructor shows proper station set up while model is numbing (organized and neat)
- Instructor demonstrates a proper client consultation (see client consultation form) o Demonstrates the importance of the artist being relaxed and friendly to the client to ease their nerves o Demonstrates how to make them excited about their new brows
- Instructor demonstrates proper mapping (Students go over the Quad Ratio with Educator)
- Class discusses what type of face shape and brow shape the should do
- Instructor Demonstrates Microblading (Students will be watching and allowed to take notes and film this procedure)
- Instructor demonstrates proper clean up
3:00 Coffee break (10 minutes)
3:10 – 4:40
- Debriefing – Talk about how the procedure went.
- Thoughts and Questions. - Students work on practice skins.
- Make sure to have paper towel under their work station and they can choose
Formative Assessment: Teacher checks for learning by walking around and giving students verbal feedback
4:40 – Review with students the learning outcomes. Students take time to review.
4: 55 – Students will complete their online quiz
5:10 – Teacher shows answers and explains each one. Clarifies any questions the students have.
5:20 – Class finishes
Reminders! - Models need to be ready by 1 pm the following day
– Make sure they know the location

✓ Be able to assess pigment colour and blade size suitable for their client

✓ Successfully preform the client consultation and discuss the procedure and after care
with their client with no assistance from the instructor
✓ Successfully apply their knowledge with health and safety to ensure that their work
station ready and the procedure is done safely
✓ Properly clean up and disinfect tools and items used for microblading following the procedure.
✓ Learn how to properly assess themselves
✓ Formative – Check for understanding of blades, colours, consultation, aftercare and procedure by asking questions and by observation
✓ Summative: Written quiz at the end of class

9:15 am – Review - Q & A (spend time on questions that students have)
9:15 – Set up stations - Instructor checks to make sure stations are set up and ready to go
9:30 am – Models Arrive
9:30 – 12:00 – Microblading on Live Model
12: 00- 12:30 – Lunch
12:45 – Second Models Arrive
– Client Consultation and Numbing Models
2 pm – 4:00 – Microblading on Live Model
4:00 - Clean up and Disinfect stations
Coffee Break if there are students that finish early (around 3:30)
4:00 – Recap / Students fill out questionnaire and hand in
4:30 – 5:30pm – Threading Workshop
Online Theory - 6 hours approximately
Classroom - 24 hours (3 full days)
Practical - 45 Hours (15 models after the course)
Total time is approximately 75 hours to complete this course.
15 models must be uploaded to the online training portal for assessment. Students are required to do a written reflection. Students have 16 weeks to submit their models after the course.
